Florence-Darlington Technical College Sponsors Annual Ethics Debate

Florence-Darlington Technical College sponsored its bi-annual Ethics Forum with a panel discussion and debate on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in the College's Fred C. Fore Auditorium. This semester's forum was entitled "Ethical Issues in Today's World."

Andrew Kampiziones, Instructor of Philosophy, was the moderator. Kampiziones founded the debates to allow FDTC students to explore important issues.

Panelists included: Dr. Murray W. Brockman, President, South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics, who discussed ethics of scientific research and Dwight Lewis of IRIX Pharmaceuticals, who spoke on pharmaceutical ethics.

Speaking on Business Ethics was Dr. James O'Laughlin, Chief Executive Officer, Carolinas Hospital System. Also from Carolinas Hospital System was physician Dr. Mark Steadman, who spoke on the topic of Bio ethics.

Discussing ethics in the market place was Bill Yonce, Senior Auctioneer Affiliate, Carolina Auction Team, Inc.

The public, FDTC students, faculty and staff listened to the panelists make opening statements and then were encouraged to participate in the panel discussion and debate.
