Certified Fiber Optics Courses

Florence-Darlington Technical College will host the Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) Course beginning January 7, 2008.  This 3-day fiber optics course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optics Technician.  This program prepares the student to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optics Technician) exam given and graded at the end of class.  Student will be able to effectively and efficiently install terminate and test multimode/singlemode fiber optics networks.

Suggested Prerequisite:  Basic working knowledge of computers.  Able to see and identify small items and able to speak and understand the English language.

Florence-Darlington Technical College will host the Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing & Maintenance, beginning January 10, 2008.  This two-day program is designed to offer advanced training to anyone involved with the testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks.  A focal point in the program is to offer a general, easy to understand approach to fiber optics testing standards with little theory and considerable hands-on activities.  The program prepares the student to take the Specialist Fiber Optics Certification in Testing Exam given at the end of class.  Student will be able to effectively and efficiently identify fiber network defects, and provide QA procedures to minimize or eliminate network outages.

Prerequisite:  CFOT Course or another formal Fiber Optics Training Course within preceding 6 months, or 1 year Fiber Optics related experience.  Must have taken and passed the Basic CFOT Exam prior to registering for this course.  If the student isn't a registered CFOT with the FOA, the 100 question exam is available to "test out" of the basic CFOT course requirement.  The exam fee is $145.00.

Both courses will be held in the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology, located in the rear of campus.
