Quick Steps - Verification Process

Once the FAFSA has been submitted, a student may be selected for verification.  The process is as follows: 

Dependent Student...

First...

a. Submit copies of your and your parent's Federal tax returns.
b.  To request copy of federal tax return, call 1-800-829-1040 or request by mail at www.irs.gov

Submit to FA Center...

c.  Verification documents
d.  Copy of  your prior year signed Federal tax returns:
 i. 2011-12 school year – 2010 returns
 ii. 2012-13 school year – 2011 returns
e.  Copy of your parent's prior year signed Federal tax returns:
 i. 2011-12 school year – 2010 returns
 ii. 2012-13 school year – 2011 returns
f.  Untaxed income documents (i.e. Social Security Statements, etc.)

Verification is processed...

g.  Allow 2-3 weeks for processing.
h.  Check status.

For corrections after verification...

i.  If corrections are required after verification review, go to FA office.
j.  FA office will re-submit for corrections for you.

Independent Student...

First...

b. If you are married, submit copies of your and your spouse's Federal tax returns.
c.  To request copy of federal tax return, call 1-800-829-1040 or request by mail at www.irs.gov
