Grade Policy

Assignment of Grades

The assignment of grades is the responsibility of the instructor of record.  Exceptions to this policy can only be made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.  For example, if for some reason like an illness or an automobile accident, etc., an instructor is unable to assign grades, the appropriate Department Head with concurrence of the appropriate Academic Associate Vice President may assign grades with the approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Grade Changes

Grades may be changed by an instructor within one term following the initial assignment of the grade.  After one term has lapsed, grade changes from the previous term will not be allowed. The following grade changes may NOT be made:  W or WF to any letter grade or I.  Exceptions may only be made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The request for an exception must be presented by the appropriate Associate Vice President.

Grade changes must be initiated by the instructor of record, and the Grade Change Form must have the appropriate Associate Vice President’s signature.  The form must be accompanied by a brief explanation and justification for the change. Grade Change Forms may be obtained in Registrar Services and, once approved by all parties, the change will be entered into the system by Registrar Services.

Grades for Repeated Courses

When a course is repeated, all grades will be entered on the student’s permanent academic record.  The higher of the two grades will be included in the grade point average.

Certain departmental requirements may limit the number of times a course may be repeated.

Students receiving Financial Aid should know that all coursework attempted will be calculated in assessment of academic progress standards for student Financial Aid purposes.

Grade Appeals

If a student feels that he/she has grounds for challenging a grade, the appeal must take place within one calendar year of grade issuance.  A grade cannot be contested after a year has passed.

The grade appeal process begins with the student contacting the instructor who originally entered the grade in question.

Grade Reports

Grade reports are available to students with an active Student ID and Password online through WebAdvisor.  Students who require a copy of their grades (via an FDTC Transcript) may print one from the College's WebAdvisor or request an official or student copy from the Registrar Services Office, either in person or by mail.
