Withdrawal From The College or College Course(s)

A student wishing to withdraw from a course(s) should first consult with his/her advisor. Students must officially withdraw in order to receive a refund. (The schedule below is a withdrawal schedule, not a refund schedule. Refer to the College's Refund Policy.) If he/she withdraws from a course(s) prior to the completion of the designated instructional day of the course, the grade recorded shall be “W”. The deadlines for withdrawing are:

(See Student College Calendar for specific dates.)

When a student receives a grade of “W”, quality points are not earned and the grade is not used in computing the student’s grade point average.

Approval of the appropriate Associate Vice President is required when a student withdraws after the designated withdrawal date.  The grade recorded is “WF” or “W” based on the academic average at the time of withdrawal.  A grade of “WF” will be used in computing the student’s grade point average.  A student normally may not withdraw from a course after the withdrawal date except in certain instances which effectively prevent the student’s completion of the course.  Failure to file a withdrawal form with the Registrar’s Office will result in the grade of “F” being assigned for the course.

An instructor may withdraw a student from the class if the student is absent for more than 10% of the total hours that the course meets in a semester.  The grade of “W” or “WF” will be assigned based on the student’s average in the class at the point of withdrawal.

It is important that students who anticipate withdrawing from a course(s) investigate the impact of this withdrawal with the appropriate college office.  Changes in course loads can affect financial aid, veteran’s benefits, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other enrollment-related financial situations.  In addition, courses in some academic programs are sequenced and scheduled at specific times during the year.  Withdrawal from these courses often lengthens the time required for students to complete an academic program of study.

*All students on Financial Aid should contact the Financial Aid Office prior to withdrawal regarding repayment of debt to the Federal government and FDTC.*

Compliance with this procedure protects the student’s privileges of readmission and credit transfer to another institution.  ID cards must be returned to Registrar Services when a student completely withdraws from the College.
