Job Description
Spec-Engineering-Gas - Multiple Levels (Columbia) #965911 Cola Gas Opns/Trans Substation Responsibilities This position is located in the Columbia. The position is responsible for the following tasks and the level of tasks will vary based upon title. Position plans, coordinates and designs the installation and repair of gas transmission and distribution mains and service lines assigned to employees and outside contractors with the objective of assuring that installations and repairs conform to Company standards and schedules. Interprets blue prints and drawings of work performance to determine that work is conforming to company standards and plans and complies with DOT requirements. Prepares detailed field drawings of all facilities installed, abandoned, or repaired, if required. Ensures that all aspects of the job are performed in a safe manner that fulfills all requirements of OSHA. Prepares complete and accurate records and reports of inspection activities and results; draws construction sketches detailing location of pipe, valves, and fittings with respect to permanent structures, property lines, and cover of pipe to natural ground. Assures permits are approved prior to construction. Coordinates construction activities with landowners, builders, developers, State DOT, and other regulatory agencies to assure quality and timeliness of project. Performs technical computations and load studies; makes technical drawings and reports. Previews jobs and provides estimates for jobbing work. Measures and collects field information, through field measurement, tax maps at courthouses, and scaling from drawings. Plans and executes details of work orders. Creates encroachment permits. Assists engineer, sales and other engineering specialists as directed. Understands and abides by all safety regulations. Available for emergency response as needed. Candidates will be evaluated based upon education, training, and experience. Qualifications Experience Required: Gas Engineering Specialist I - Must have at least two years of related technical experience along with a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. Also, must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Gas Engineering Specialist II - Must have all qualifications required for a Gas Engineering Specialist I. Must have technical knowledge acquired by four years of experience as a Gas Engineering Specialist I or equivalent work experience. Education Required: Gas Engineering Specialist I - Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or a G.E.D. Gas Engineering Specialist II - Must have a minimum of a two-year associates degree in related technical field or successful completion of NACE CP Level I classroom training course and exam, or previous Journeyman classification. Responsibilities: Construction observation - monitor new construction to ensure that City standards and specifications are met; Contractor Pay Requests Processing - review pay requests and verify field quantities for contract payment; Utility Location and Marking - Locate and mark existing City utility lines. Update Records - Assist in keeping utilities drawings and maps up-to-date for record files. Review Plans - Review site plans, stormwater plans, elevation drawings and development plans for compliance with city codes. Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Civil Engineering or related filed and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering and Construction; or any equivalent combination of related education, experience and training.
