FDTC to Host Back 2 School Bash and Car Show

FLORENCE, S.C. - Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) will host the annual Back 2 School Bash, along with the inaugural Full Throttle for Education Car Show on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

The Back 2 School Bash will encompass the front of the main campus with the mission to collect donated school supplies for students in the community. A limited number of school supplies will be given away at the event; however, the college will raise more donated items during the Back 2 School Bash that will be given away at a later date.

“The Back 2 School Bash is an opportunity for Florence-Darlington Technical College to give back to our community and bring everyone together to celebrate the education of all ages in a fun-filled day,” said Assistant Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Community Outreach, Delores Dingle.

At the Back 2 School Bash, fun and music will be provided throughout the day by local DJ and radio personality of “At the Beach” road show, Dan E. Lockemy. Florence’s iHeartRadio, Inc. station, WJMX-FM 103X, will be broadcasting live at the college from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of vendors will be displaying their products that will be available to purchase as well.

“The event offers a great opportunity for families to come out to the college and enjoy great food and local talent,” said Recruiter/Transfer Counselor, Christina Brown. “The college’s staff will be on hand as well to answer any questions regarding the upcoming fall semester.”

A Kids Zone will be set up in front of the 400 Building. It will include inflatables, face paintings, balloons and a variety of games. Individuals, who attend the event will get an up close and personal look at the Florence County Sheriff Office’s vehicles and one of their helicopters. The Florence Police Department, West Florence Fire Department and Florence County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) will have their vehicles on display too.

“There are going to be a variety of fun activities for families to enjoy,” said Director of K12, Maggie Gause. “Kids will be able to dance to the music, draw on the pavement and jump around in the inflatables.”

The Full Throttle for Education Car Show is set to feature an array of car clubs, including the Eastern South Carolina Mustang Club. The community is encouraged to participate and display their exotic cars as well. Individuals, who plan on taking part in the car show, will need to arrive at the college by 10 a.m. There will be three car show awards presented at 12:30 p.m. The awards include the President’s Choice Award, FDTC Educational Foundation’s Choice Award and the Judge’s Choice Award.

“You never know what you’re going to see at a car show,” said PR/Marketing Specialist, Hunter Thomas. “We’re hoping to display everything from American muscle cars to imports. We may even see a few really rare, exotic vehicles that are from around area.”
