
FLORENCE, S.C. (March 14, 2019) – A seven-run rally in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game at Old Cormell Field allowed the Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers to defeat Southeastern Community College 10-2.
The Tech Stingers opened the game with two runs scored in the first inning. Southeastern Community College scored a run in the second, but the Tech Stingers answered back by scoring another run in the third. Southeastern Community College’s final run of the game came in the fifth inning, and the Tech Stingers got on a roll, scoring seven runs in the sixth.
Elian Almanzar was the starter on the mound and the winning pitcher for the Tech Stingers. He pitched the first 3.1 innings. Almanzar struck out six batters and allowed two hits.
Throughout the game, the Tech Stingers accumulated nine hits. Patrick Baggett led the way at the plate, as he was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Alex Stennett was also 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Ceejay Belton, Michael Elijah, Cameron Dean, Grant Bodison and Hunter Baker each had a hit.
The Tech Stingers are 16-8 this season.
The team will host USC Salkehatchie on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 at Sparrow Stadium. Doubleheaders on both days will begin at 1 p.m.
