High school math teams from all over the Pee Dee will compete Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Florence-Darlington Technical College annual Technical Mathematics Competition. This is the 20th year that FDTC’s Mathematics Department has put on the morning long competition that pits 14 of the region’s high schools against each other.
The five person student teams will compete for a $1,500 grand prize put up by FDTC’s Educational Foundation. Second place wins $1,000 and third place takes home $500. The teams will have to solve real world math problems that they will face in a work environment.
The Technical Mathematics Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. that morning at the College’s Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology. Florence’s Wilson High School will defend its 2015 championship.
An awards ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. after lunch for the students and their sponsors.
