Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) will have a physical presence at Darlington County School District (DCSD) as the two educational entities partner to provide dual credit classes in the B.A. Gary Educational Complex. FDTC president, Dr. Ben Dillard will be joined by Darlington County School District superintendent, Dr. Eddie Ingram and associate superintendent, Dr. Bill Boyd as they will sign an official agreement on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Complex, located at 100 Magnolia Street.
“We are really looking forward to the partnership with the Darlington County School District,” said Dr. Dillard. “We are always thinking of new and innovative ways to reach out to more individuals in the community, and this particular effort is especially exciting because the classes will be hosted in the B.A. Gary Educational Complex, located in the heart of Darlington.”
FDTC will provide a college readiness course, as well as an entry-level psychology course to Darlington County Intervention School seniors, adult education seniors who are enrolled in eligible programs and the public at its new Darlington Center.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to bring Florence-Darlington Technical College’s services to the heart of our community,” said Director of Darlington County Adult Education, Chuck Miller. “The dual credit aspect with FDTC will give our students and the public a head start on college credit and their future.”
The two courses that will be available for students to take in the B.A. Gary Educational Complex will count directly towards earning a diploma at FDTC. The partnership marks the first time that the Darlington County School District has hosted the college in one of its buildings.
“I am very happy that we are continuing to work with Florence-Darlington Technical College to make high-quality training available to our community,” said Ingram. “This collaboration will help our students and citizens develop and consciously hone 21st century skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.”
