FLORENCE, S.C. (July 9, 2019) - It has been more than 30 years, but soon, the sound of singing voices will be heard on the main campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College. Choir members will get credit and a performance on a national stage that is already in the works.
FDTC Instructor of Music Rebecca Hunter is reviving a student choir offered in the 2019 Fall Semester. Music 101 is the class that students have to sign up for to be considered for the FDTC Choir. There is an audition process for the choir.
Hunter is thrilled that her choir already has a “big time gig”. She has secured them an invitation to sing at the National Memorial Day Celebration at the Washington, D.C. Kennedy Center.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to learn and hear other great musicians!” said Hunter.
Hundreds of students from other institutions around the nation are invited to the three-day celebration of the 2020 Memorial Day event in the nation’s capital.
The U.S. Air Force Band is tentatively set to play along with the FDTC Choir, and the show will be broadcast to American armed forces and their families serving around the world.
Hunter said, “It’s a great honor to perform for our service members!”
Hunter is applying for grants to help pay for the FDTC Choir’s expenses to the nation’s capital.
