Florence-Darlington Technical College leaders will join with a NASCAR crew chief and Darlington Raceway officials on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 to open the college’s new Automotive and HVAC Technology Center. The event on the college’s main campus begins at 2 p.m. and will feature a ribbon cutting and guest speakers. A tour of the facility will also be offered.
The new building is the first phase of FDTC’s 10-year Academic Master Plan to add new facilities and give the college’s main campus a make-over. A new building for the Automotive Technology program and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) classes is needed because of the continuing growth of both businesses.
The new 35,000 square foot facility is between the main campus and the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) on DuBard Boulevard. Ground was broken in August of 2015. Construction of the $7.3 million dollar construction was recently completed, and Automotive and HVAC students are already taking classes and labs in the facility.
