Lady Stingers Advance in 2019 Region X Tournament

BURLINGTON, N.C. (May 9, 2019) – After defeating Surry Community College 7-2 on Thursday, the Florence-Darlington Technical College Lady Stingers beat Pitt Community College 9-1 to advance in the Region X Tournament at Springwood Park.

In the game versus Pitt Community College, the Lady Stingers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Lady Stingers tacked two runs onto the scoreboard in the second inning, while Pitt Community College only scored a run. In the fifth and final inning, the Lady Stingers scored two more runs.

Courtney Watson earned her 13th win of the season on the mound pitching for the Lady Stingers. In five innings, Watson struck out three batters and only allowed six hits and a run.

Lillie Baumbach and Jada Parsons had two hits each as they went 2-for-4 at the plate. Parsons had four RBI. Kristina Lee, Watson with a RBI, Baylee Elms with two RBI and Anna Michael had a hit in the game as well.

On Friday, the No. 4 Lady Stingers will take on No. 2 Louisburg at 11 a.m. If the Lady Stingers win that game, they will compete in the Region X championship game at approximately 3 p.m. If the Lady Stingers lose, then they will need to win an additional game (team TBA) before advancing to the final game of the tournament.
