FLORENCE, S.C. (March 9, 2019) – In dramatic fashion at Old Cormell Field, the Florence-Darlington Technical College Lady Stingers topped Southeastern Community College 6-5 on Thursday and 5-3 and 8-5 on Friday. The three region victories were accompanied by eight homeruns.
On Thursday, sophomore Kristina Lee hit a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the win for the Lady Stingers in the 6-5 victory. Courtney Watson was the winning pitcher as she struck out eight players and only allowed two hits and a walk. Lee was 3-for-4 with a two-run homerun and 3 RBI. Lillie Baumbach was 2-for-4 with a double, a single and an RBI.
To open Friday, the Lady Stingers defeated Southeastern Community College 5-3. Watson was once again the winning pitcher on the mound. Watson struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits and two walks. Baylee Elms led the team at the plate as she was 2-for-3 with a single and a two-run homerun. Jaylah McCormick was 2-for-3 with a single and a solo homerun. Cassie Hayden also went 2-for-3.
In Game No. 2 on Friday, the Lady Stingers won 8-5. Anna Michael knocked a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth to put the Stingers on top. Tori Alexander won on the mound. Alexander struck out a batter and only allowed two hits and a walk. Watson came in for relief, giving up two hits and striking a player out. Lee was 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun and a double. Jada Parsons was 2-for-3 with two homeruns and a walk. McCormick was 3-for-3 at the plate with a homerun.
The Lady Stingers are now 10-3 this season.
The Lady Stingers will travel to North Carolina on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16, to play Pitt Community College. Friday’s game will begin at 3 p.m. The Doubleheader on Saturday will get underway at 11 a.m.
