No. 10 Lady Stingers Split Wins With USC Sumter

FLORENCE, S.C. (April 4, 2018) – The No. 10 nationally ranked Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) Lady Stingers beat USC Sumter 5-4 on Wednesday before falling 3-1 in the second game of the doubleheader at Old Cormell Field.

In the 5-4 win in the opening game on Wednesday, USC Sumter jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but FDTC catcher, Erin Bailey answered back with a two-run homerun. The momentum allowed the Lady Stingers to score two additional runs in the fifth inning. The final run for FDTC came in the sixth inning, when an overthrown ball to third base rolled into the Lady Stingers’ dugout. With the ball out of play, the Lady Stingers advanced the bases, scoring the eventual winning run.

Tori Alexander earned the win on the mound. Two hits, a homerun, two walks and two runs were allowed.

Alexander was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Marissa Tyndall was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

During the second game of the doubleheader, Alexander suffered the loss on the mound as she came in for relief for Tyndall. Combined, they gave up five hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

Baylee Elms hit a solo homerun. Riley Boyle was 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Bailey was 2-for-3 with two singles.

The Lady Stingers are now 28-6 overall.

On Friday, April 6, the Lady Stingers will host Wake Tech at Old Cormell Field at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Region 10 rival, Pitt Community College will visit Old Cormell Field on Saturday, April 7 for a doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m., followed by the second game at 2 p.m.
