
LEXINGTON, S.C. (May 4, 2019) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers beat Louisburg 6-2 to advance in the Region X Tournament on Saturday.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning, but the Tech Stingers took the lead in the third inning by tacking two runs onto the scoreboard. The Tech Stingers went on to score a run in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings. Louisburg only scored one more run in the ninth as they fell to the Tech Stingers.
Will Abbott won the game on the mound. Abbott pitched for 7.1 innings, striking out six, walking one and only allowing four hits and a run. Peyton Evans entered the game in relief, pitching for 1.2 innings.
The Tech Stingers accumulated 12 hits at the plate. Mark Engel led the way as he was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Patrick Baggett, Ryan Moore and Hunter Baker had two hits each. Edward Landron, Cameron Dean and Damond Nixon had a hit as well.
The Tech Stingers are now 42-11 this season.
On Sunday, the Tech Stingers will face the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Spartanburg Methodist. The game will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
