Stingers Defeat Fayetteville Tech in Doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (April 24, 2019) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers defeated Fayetteville Tech 8-5 and 8-0 while on the road in North Carolina on Tuesday.

In the opening matchup of the evening, the Tech Stingers led the entire game. Ryan Smith won on the mound. Smith struck out five players and only allowed three hits in three innings. No runs were scored and no players were walked while Smith was pitching. Jay McKenzie, Nick Fowler and Nathan Barolet entered the game in relief.

Cameron Dean went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI and two runs. Mark Engel went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs. Damond Nixon went 2-for-3 with a homerun, three RBI and two runs. Patrick Baggett, Edward Landron, Michael Elijah and Hunter Baker had a hit.

The Tech Stingers shutout Fayetteville Tech 8-0 in the second game on Tuesday. Zac Branham was the winning pitcher on the mound. He pitched for three innings, striking out three batters and walking none. Three hits were allowed. Timmy Felder, Nat Turner and Cameron Clark entered the game in relief.

Ryan Moore had a solid night at the plate. Moore was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Elijah went 2-for-2 with a triple, a RBI and a run. Baggett, Dean, Grant Bodison, Engel and Baker had a hit each.

The Tech Stingers are now 38-12 overall and 14-6 in Region 10.

Today, the Tech Stingers will travel to Holly Springs, North Carolina to play Wake Tech at 5 p.m.
