
FLORENCE, S.C. (February 18, 2019) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers hosted Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday and Sunday at Old Cormell Field. The Stingers lost 5-1 in the opening game on Saturday, but they bounced back to win 11-1 in the second game and again on Sunday 12-2.
During the first game on Saturday, the Tech Stingers got behind and never rebounded as they lost 5-1.
Will Abbott suffered the loss on the mound. Abbott pitched for five innings as he struck out six batters, walked a batter and allowed three hits and three runs. Hunter Baker led the way at the plate for the Tech Stingers as he was 2-for-2. Elijah was 1-for-3 with a run. Baggett, Mark Engel and Chase Galloway had a hit. Galloway’s hit was a double.
Bouncing back from the loss, the Tech Stingers took the lead in the third inning of the second game on Saturday and never looked back as they won 11-1. The momentum of the game really swayed in the Tech Stingers’ favor as they scored seven runs on Patrick Henry Community College in the fourth inning.
Timmy Felder earned the win on the mound as he lasted for five innings. Felder struck out nine batters while also walking a batter and allowing five hits and a run. Michael Elijah was 2-for-2 at the plate, with four RBI and a run. Patrick Baggett was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Cameron Dean, Alex Stennett and Billy Flohr each had a hit as well.
The Tech Stingers opened Sunday with six runs in the first inning. The team eventually went on to dominate in the 12-2 victory over Patrick Henry Community College.
Boyce Kobleur earned the victory on the mound as he pitched all seven innings. Kobleur struck out eight batters and allowed only two hits and two runs. He didn’t walk a batter throughout the game. Baggett was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Overall, the Tech Stingers earned seven hits in the game.
Up next on the schedule for the Tech Stingers is a single game with Southeastern Community College on Wednesday, February 20. The team will travel to Whiteville, North Carolina for the 2 p.m. game.
