
FLORENCE, S.C. (March 4, 2019) – Over the weekend, the Tech Stingers split a series with Monroe College at Old Cormell Field. The Tech Stingers won 3-0 and lost 6-5 on Saturday, and they lost 3-2 and won 5-1 on Sunday.
During the opening game on Saturday, the Tech Stingers took an early lead 1-0 in the second inning. They followed that run up with one in the fourth inning and another in the sixth inning. Monroe College was held scoreless as the Tech Stingers won 3-0.
Will Abbott won on the mound as he pitched all seven innings. Abbott amassed nine strikeouts and only allowed a hit and two walks. Alex Stennett led the way at the plate, as he was 2-for-2. Hunter Baker, Mark Engel and Grant Bodison were 1-for-2.
In the second game on Saturday, the Tech Stingers lost 6-5. Zac Branham suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched for 5.1 innings, striking out six batters and allowing four hits, three runs earned and four walks. Baggett was 2-for-3 in the batter’s box. Michael Elijah, Stennett, Damond Nixon and Edward Landron each had a hit.
The Tech Stingers fell again to Monroe College during Sunday’s first matchup. Nathan Barolet lost on the mound as the Tech Stingers were topped 3-2 by the Mustangs. Barolet pitched 2.1 innings. He struck out a batter and allowed two hits and a run. Bodison, Baker, Elijah and Landron had a hit in the game.
To conclude the weekend series, the Tech Stingers won 5-1. They took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Baker knocked a ball over the fence for a homerun in the first. The Tech Stingers tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning.
Boyce Kobleur earned his fourth win of the season on the mound. Kobleur struck out seven batters and only allowed two hits and a run. He pitched all seven innings. Engel, Stennett and Ceejay Belton had a hit.
The Tech Stingers are now 13-6 this season.
On Wednesday, the Tech Stingers will travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina to play Pitt Community College at 1 p.m.
