
The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers hosted Week No. 1 of the Stinger Invitational at Sparrow Stadium, winning three of four games between Friday and Sunday.
On Friday, the Tech Stingers baseball team defeated Patrick Henry 10-0. Connor Campbell earned the win after pitching for five innings. Campbell struck out seven batters and only allowed two hits.
Grayson Cottingham who is a Florence, South Carolina native led the way for the Tech Stingers as he was 2-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Gabe Austin and Bishopville’s Harrison Hawkins also had two hits throughout the game.
The Tech Stingers continued their dominance on Saturday as they defeated Potomac State 10-8 and Cecil 12-2.
Sumter’s Tradd James picked up the win while pitching for four innings against Potomac State. James struck out three batters and allowed six hits. Josh Price earned the save by pitching for three innings.
Cross Holfert was 2-4 in the batter’s box with a home run, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Reid Hardwick was also 2-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Hawkins and Cottingham added two hits, and Michael Elijah had two runs batted in.
During the second game on Saturday versus Cecil, Mullins’ Weston Rogers earned the win with four innings pitched, five strikeouts and only two hits.
Elijah led the way in batting, as he was 3-3 with three runs scored and a run batted in. Latta’s Jackson Williams was 2-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Adam Spurlin had three runs batted in, while Hardwick and Dax Roper had two runs batted in.
The Tech Stingers lost to East Georgia State 3-0 during the last day of the opening week of the Stinger Invitational. Evan Odum suffered the loss throwing for 5.1 innings. Odum struck out two batters but allowed three hits and three runs but none earned.
Elijah, Connor Pett and Hawkins each had a hit.
Week No. 2 of the Stinger Invitational will get underway on Friday, February 23. The Stingers who have a winning record of 8-3 will host Brunswick at 4 p.m. on Friday at Old Cormell Field. On Saturday, February 24 at Sparrow Stadium, the Stingers will host Cecil at 1: 30 p.m. and No. 3 ranked (by PerfectGame) Walters State at 6:30 p.m. The final game of the Stinger Invitational will be held at 5:30 p.m. as the Stingers host Brunswick at Sparrow Stadium.
