
FLORENCE, S.C. (April 4, 2019) – On Wednesday, the Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers defeated Catawba Valley 16-4 in Lexington, South Carolina.
The Tech Stingers took an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Catawba Valley scored a run in the third and fifth inning, as well as two in the ninth, but the Tech Stingers’ 23 hits crossed 16 runs across home plate.
Elian Almanzar won the game on the mound. Almanzar struck out four batters and only allowed three hits and one run over the course of three innings.
Ryan Moore and Alex Stennett led the way at the plate as he they both had four hits each. Moore was 4-for-6 with three singles, a double, three runs and six RBI. Stennett was 4-for-5 with four singles, three runs and two RBI. Mark Engel, Damond Nixon, Hunter Baker and Chase Galloway had three hits in the game. Ten Tech Stingers accumulated at least a hit throughout the afternoon.
The Tech Stingers are 28-9 overall.
The team will host Fayetteville Tech today at Old Cormell Field at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, the Tech Stingers will host USC Lancaster at Sparrow Stadium in a four-game series. The doubleheader on each day will get underway at 1 p.m.
