
FLORENCE, S.C. (March 9, 2020) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers shutout Cuyahoga in three of four home games this past weekend at Dailey Field.
In Saturday’s first game of the series, the Tech Stingers won 4-0. Hunter Parks won on the mound after pitching for six innings. Parks struck out nine batters and only allowed five hits and a walk. Drake Thames entered the game in relief to pitch the seventh inning. DJ Sullivan recorded the Tech Stinger’s only hit of the game.
The Tech Stingers held Cuyahoga scoreless on Saturday as they won the second game 5-0. Connor Campbell threw a complete game shutout on the mound. Campbell struck out 11 batters, walked three and allowed a hit in seven innings. Hunter Baker led the Tech Stingers at the plate as he went 2-for-4. Sullivan, Andre Demetral and Trey Yates had a hit as well.
Despite an impressive late-game rally, the Tech Stingers lost Sunday’s first game 10-8. The Tech Stingers scored four runs off a grand slam by Charlie Corum in the fifth inning and three run in the sixth, but that wasn’t enough to capture the victory. Jermaine Vanheyningen suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched for two and two-thirds innings, striking out two batters and allowing five hits and four runs. Sullivan, Josearmando Diaz, Baker and Yates had two hits. Justin Hanvey, Corum and Scott McDonough had a hit.
The Tech Stingers recorded their third shutout of the weekend on Sunday as they won 8-0 in the second game. Tyliss Roper earned the win while striking out nine batters and allowing only two hits in seven innings. Corum led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-3. Daniel Gueldner, Cameron Dean, Yates, SB Ducom and Josh Patterson each had a hit in the game.
The Tech Stingers improve to 15-6 overall this season.
On Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, the Tech Stingers will travel to Allendale, South Carolina to play USC Salkehatchie. Doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. on both days.
