Tech Stingers Dominate Series Against Louisburg

FLORENCE, S.C. (March 25, 2019) – Over the weekend, the Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers played Louisburg in North Carolina. The Tech Stingers swept Louisburg 7-3 and 21-7 on Saturday, and on Sunday, they lost 5-4 but bounced back to win 9-5.

In the 7-3 victory to open the four-game series, Will Abbott captured the win on the mound. He struck out 12 batters in seven innings. Abbott only allowed five hits and three runs. Hunter Baker knocked a homerun in the seventh inning. Mark Engel and Alex Stennett each had a double. Ryan Moore, Edward Landron and Chase Galloway had a hit as well.

The Tech Stingers absolutely dominated Saturday’s second game, winning 21-7. Boyce Kobleur was the winning pitcher. In four innings, Kobleur struck out three and allowed four hits and four runs. Cameron Clark and Nat Turner finished out the game in relief. Baggett, Engel and Baker went long in the fifth inning, allowing the Stingers to score 10 runs. Baggett was 3-for-4. Stennett was 2-for-3. Cameron Dean, Grant Bodison, Engel, Danny Grillo, Damond Nixon and Baker had a hit each.

The Tech Stingers fell to Louisburg 5-4 in Sunday’s opening game. Daniel Rutherford suffered the loss on the mound. Over the course of five innings, Rutherford struck out seven batters and allowed four hits and one earned run. Stennett led the way at the plate, as he was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Baggett, Ryan Moore, Landron, Michael Elijah, Engel and Baker all had a hit.

Bouncing back, the Tech Stingers defeated Louisburg 9-5 in the final game of the series on Sunday. Nathan Barolet earned the victory on the mound. In five innings, Barolet didn’t allow any runs as he struck out seven batters and allowed only four hits. Nixon knocked a homerun in the seventh inning, accounting for the Tech Stingers’ only long ball of the game. Landron was 2-for-4, and Dean was 2-for-3. Baggett, Moore with a double, Engel and Nixon had a hit.

The Tech Stingers extend their winning record to 24-9 overall and 9-3 in Region X.

On Tuesday, the Tech Stingers will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to play Guilford Tech at 2:30 p.m.
