Tech Stingers Split Wins With USC Sumter

 

FLORENCE, S.C. (March 26, 2018) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers won two of four games over the weekend against Region 10 rival, USC Sumter at Sparrow Stadium.

The Tech Stingers opened up the series on Saturday with an 8-1 win over USC Sumter. Weston Rogers was the winning pitcher as he was on the mound for seven innings. Rogers struck out nine batters and only allowed six hits.

Dax Roper was 3-4 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Rafi Vazquez hit a homerun, while Reid Hardwick and Michael Elijah had two runs batted in.

USC Sumter beat the Stingers during the second game 7-2. Conner Campbell lost on the mound as the relief. Vazquez was 2-4 at the plate.

The Tech Stingers also lost the first game on Sunday as they fell 3-2 to USC Sumter. Dillon’s Josh Price loss in relief. Price struck out five batters as he pitched 4.2 innings. Three hits were allowed by Price as well.

Reid Hardwick was 3-5. Roper was 2-4 with two runs batted in. Gabe Austin was 2-3 at the plate.

During the second game on Sunday, the Tech Stingers won 5-3. Mark Leonard won on the mound as he pitched for six innings. Leonard struck out eight batters and allowed seven hits and three runs. Sumter’s Tradd James earned the save.

Grayson Cottingham led the Tech Stingers at the plate as he was 2-3 with three runs batted in. Hardwick was 2-4 with two runs batted in. Bishopville’s Harrison Hawkins was 2-2.

The Tech Stingers are now 24-10 overall and 6-2 in Region 10, tied for first place.

On Wednesday, March 28, the Tech Stinger will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to play Guilford Tech. The Tech Stingers will host Spartanburg Methodist at Old Cormell Field at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.
