
FLORENCE, S.C. (February 4, 2019) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers swept Roane State in all four season opening home games at Old Cormell Field, winning 3-0 and 10-5 on Saturday and 2-1 and 5-4 on Sunday.
Peyton Evans earned the win on the mound during the first game on Saturday. Evans pitched four innings, earning six strikeouts and allowing three hits during the 3-0 victory. Will Abbott of Camden, South Carolina earned the save by pitching three innings, striking out six batters and allowing only a hit. Alex Stennett was 1-2 at the plate with a run and a walk. Sumter’s Ryan Moore and Walterboro’s Grant Bodison each had an RBI.
In Game No. 2 on Saturday, the Tech Stingers won 10-5. Boyce Kobleur earned the win as he pitched for three innings. Kobleur struck out four batters and allowed two hits. Second-year Stinger, Michael Elijah led the Stingers at the plate, as he was 2-2 with two RBI and a run. Stennett had another good performance. He was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs. Moore had two hits.
On Sunday, Elgin’s Zac Branham earned the win on the mound in the 2-1 victory. Branham pitched for three innings. He struck out three batters, only allowed a hit and had zero runs earned. Hunter Baker was 2-3 with a double.
Nat Turner earned the win during the final game of the series as Stingers defeated Roane State 5-4. Turner pitched for two innings, striking out a batter and allowing zero runs earned and only two hits. Nathan Barolet earned the save with two hits and zero earned runs. Lugoff’s Chase Galloway was 2-2 with a run and a walk. Once again, Stennett was swinging the bat at the plate, as he was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs.
The Tech Stingers will make their annual trip to Palatka, Florida to compete in the Capital City Bank Classic, Friday through Sunday, February 8-10. On Friday, the Tech Stingers will take on Northwest Florida State at 10 a.m. Two games will be held on Saturday as the Tech Stingers will play Broward at 3 p.m. and Gulf Coast State at 6 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, with the Tech Stingers playing St. Johns River State at 1 p.m.
