Tech Stingers Sweep USC Union On The Road

 

FLORENCE, S.C. (March 19, 2018) – The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers won all four games this past weekend as they swept USC Union while travelling on the road.

In the first matchup on Saturday in Union, South Carolina, the Tech Stingers beat USC Union 13-1. Dillon’s Josh Price earned the victory on the mound as he pitched for four innings while striking out four batters and allowing two hits.

Cross Holfert was 3-3 with a homerun, three runs and three runs batted in. Gabe Austin was 2-5 with a homerun and five runs batted in.

During the second game of the doubleheader on Friday, USC Union fell 8-0 to the Tech Stingers. Mark Leonard earned the win after pitching for seven innings. Leonard struck out six players and only allowed two hits.

Dante Blakeney was 2-3 with a homerun and three runs scored. Rafi Vazquez was 2-3 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Bishopville’s Harrison Hawkins had two hits.

On Sunday, the Stingers once again kicked the day off with a victory as they defeated USC Union 14-3. Tanner Myatt got the win on the mound. He pitched for two innings, striking out two players.

Once again, it was Blakeney leading the way at the plate. He was 2-2 with three runs and a run batted in. Holfert also kept his bat swinging as he was 2-4 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Hawkins was 2-3 with three runs batted in, and Tanner Mann was 2-4 with a homerun and four runs batted in.

In the fourth and final game of the weekend, the Tech Stingers absolutely dominated to win 28-0. Mullins’ Weston Rogers won on the mound with a combined no hitter. Rogers pitched for three innings.

Josh Gregory led the way at the plate, as he was 3-6 with a homerun, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Vazquez was 2-5 with two homeruns and five runs batted in. Holfert was 3-3 at the plate with two homeruns. Austin was 3-6 with two runs batted in. Blakeney was 1-2 with a homerun, five runs earned and three runs batted in. Connor Pett was 2-5 with a homerun, three runs earned and three runs batted in. Adam Spurlin and Florence’s Ed’Zaviah Paul added two hits.

The Tech Stingers are 22-8 overall, and they are in first place in Region X with a record of 4-0.

This weekend, the Tech Stingers will host USC Sumter at Sparrow Stadium located on the campus of Francis Marion University. USC Sumter sits just behind the Tech Stingers in Region X. On Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25, games will be played at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
