The Florence-Darlington Technical College Educational Foundation’s sixth annual Welding Sculpture Competition at Francis Marion University’s Arts International Festival Saturday, April 11, 2015. For the first time FMU is having FDTC’s welding competition at us and their festival and at their Performing Arts Center in downtown Florence.
The competition featuring ten professional and amateur teams starts with a scrap dive so the teams can acquire their metal to begin making their artistic creations. This year’s theme is “nature”. After day-long welding, cutting and grinding the artwork took shape and this year’s winner in the professional category is NUCOR Steel of Darlington County with an underwater scene. Dillon A Tech wins the student category with a “natural” bench seat.
After the winners and runner up were chosen the artwork was auctioned off to the highest bidder to raise money for FDTC Educational Foundation scholarships with one artwork fetching a price of 35 hundred dollars.
