Florence-Darlington Technical College’s seventh annual Welding Rodeo will once again be a part of Francis Marion University’s Arts International Festival Saturday, April 9, 2016. The theme for the welding sculpture competition this year is ‘Star Wars.’ The FDTC Educational Foundation, Lincoln Electric and SCATE Inc. are sponsoring the day-long free event that will feature nine teams.
The contest starts with teams of professional and student welders running in a “scrap dive.” The competitors will pick out scrap metal which they will turn into pieces of art. The teams will have eight hours to complete their sculpture.
A panel of judges will pick the best pieces in the professional and student divisions and cash prizes will be awarded.
All of the art work will be auctioned off at the end of the competition to benefit the FDTC Educational Foundation’s scholarship fund
