Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Basic Automotive Certificate program helps prepare students with basic automotive training. Graduates typically begin careers at regional OEM dealerships, franchised repair facilities, independent repair shops and parts businesses. Some of the position titles include technician, service advisor, and parts personnel. The program offers training in the areas of industry safety, tooling and equipment, component identification and function. Classes and labs allow students to learn subjects related to preventive maintenance, electricity, engines, manual transmissions/drivetrain, brakes, and, heating/air-conditioning.

This certificate is designed as a 1 year program during the day M-Th.

• RWR 100 or ENG 155 or equivalent test scores
• MAT 155 or equivalent test scores

In the Real World

Automotive service technicians and mechanics, often called service technicians or service tech, inspect, maintain, and repair cars and light trucks.
