CDL Permit

Program Type: Corporate & Workforce Development

Program Level: CE

Program overview

The testing procedures for obtaining a CDL Class A Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) require applicants to take a series of written tests, also referred to as Knowledge Tests. These tests include General Knowledge (~50 questions), Combination Vehicles (~25 questions), and Air Brakes (~25 questions). Applicants must score a minimum of 80% on each test to acquire a CLP Class A. Tests that are passed are recorded and will not need to be retaken. Should an applicant fail to pass all tests on their initial attempt, during the retest attempt(s) they will only have to retake the test(s) not passed previously. Individual state Commercial Drivers License manuals are made available on State DMV websites -- most are downloadable -- some may also offer the physical manual in their DMV service center locations. The State's CDL manual includes various subjects, not all are needed for a CLP Class A. These chapters cover material included in the Knowledge Tests noted above: ? Ch. 1 Introduction ? Ch. 2 Driving Safely ? Ch. 3 Transporting Cargo Safely ? Ch. 4 Transporting Passengers ? Ch. 5 Air Brakes ? Ch. 6 Combination Vehicles ? Ch. 7 Doubles and Triples This course will go over the needed material to prepare you for the permit.
