Policy Description

It is the policy of Florence-Darlington Technical College to authorize intramural and intercollegiate athletic competition, to include all sports with the exception of football. All intercollegiate athletic completion will follow regulations set forth by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

In order to support our College mission, the College seeks to provide intercollegiate opportunities for its students. Such activities provide educational, social, and personal development for all students as participants or spectators. The intercollegiate competition programs seek to bring a sense of community to the College environment and support our values.

The college will maintain a Standing Athletics Committee that will meet on an as needed basis, at a minimum, at least once each year to:

1. Review the intercollegiate athletic program to ensure that the program continues to be consistent with the mission of the College;

2. Make recommendations concerning program issues and financing; and,

3. Ensure that all college policies governing recruitment, admission, financial aid, academic policies and continuing eligibility are followed for student participating in intercollegiate athletics.

All fiscal matters relating to the athletic program are controlled by the College administration and ultimate responsibility rests with the President. There are no special policies governing the treatment of athletes. In general, external fundraising in support of athletic purposes will be processed through the Office of Business Affairs and/or Florence-Darlington Technical College Education Foundation, Incorporated.
