53-24 Due Process for Students
Procedure Description
Purpose
To establish procedures for dealing with student discipline in the classroom.
Procedure
The instructor sets the standards of behavior that are acceptable in his/her classroom by announcing these standards in the syllabus. If a student behaves disruptively in class after the instructor has explained the unacceptability of such conduct, the instructor may temporarily dismiss the student from class. INSTRUCTORS MUST NOT TELL THE STUDENT THAT HE/SHE IS SUSPENDED.
If the issue is not resolved between the instructor and student prior to the next class meeting, the issue should be referred in writing to the Vice President of Student Services, or designee, for immediate investigation and resolution.
The Student Services Division will provide each instructor with a copy of the State Student Code of Conduct and Student Grievance Procedures Manual. Please refer to it for more detailed instructions.
