51-20 Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal

Procedure Description

Purpose

Students whose financial aid has been suspended due to a lack of satisfactory academic progress are entitled to an appeal process.

Financial Aid Warning, Suspension, Appeal, and Reinstatement

1. The student is placed on financial aid warning after the first semester of unsatisfactory progress.

2. The student is sent an email informing them of their status that if they do not meet satisfactory progress in the upcoming term, they will lose their aid and will have to appeal to have it reinstated.

3. Students placed on warning will be reviewed at the end of the following semester. Students who have not made progress will be placed on suspension.

4. Appeals for reinstatement will be submitted on the Appeal form available on the FDTC Financial Aid forms webpage.

5. Appeals will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Appeals Committee. The appeal will be approved or denied based on available information and the appeal's success at indicating the student's plan for mitigating that circumstance in the future. The committee’s decision is final.

6. If a student's appeal is granted, he/she will be placed on financial aid probation. Students on probation will be reviewed at the end of the term. Students who have not met the requirements of the appeal will be placed on financial aid suspension again. These students will have to appeal to the Financial Aid Committee to request reinstatement again. The committee's decision is final.

7. Students reinstated by the committee will be reviewed at the end of the term. Students who have not met the stipulations of the appeal will have financial aid suspended without ability to appeal.
