
FDTC’s Caviston awarded FAST from Association of Surgical Technologists
Marianne Caviston, Surgical Technology Program Director, was one of 21 individuals to be awarded a Fellow of the Surgical Technologists (FAST) designation by Association of Surgical Technologists (AST). The announcement was made at the AST National Surgical Technology Conference on Sunday, May 31st in Seattle, Washington. This is the highest honor given by the Association of Surgical Technologists.
“We are incredibly proud of Marianne Caviston for earning the prestigious Fellow of the Association of Surgical Technologists designation,” said Dr. Cynthia Gray, Interim Dean of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences. “This national honor recognizes her commitment to excellence, leadership, and advancing the surgical technology profession. Her impact is felt not only in our classrooms at Florence-Darlington Technical College, but in the quality of patient care across our region. This achievement reflects the caliber of leadership and training that defines our health sciences programs.”
Surgical technologists are vital members of the healthcare team who prepare the operating room, manage sterile equipment, and assist surgeons and nurses directly before, during, and after operations. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics projected job growth is projected to be 5% annually through 2034.
The Fellow of the Association of Surgical Technologists designation is awarded to recognize those individuals who have upheld the highest professional, ethical and moral standards and traditions of the surgical technology profession, and whose professional activity has been devoted to the advancement of the profession towards improving the quality of surgical patient care. AST awards FAST to those CSTs and CSFAs whose professional activities have been devoted to the practice of surgical technology, and who abide by the AST Code of Ethics and Professional Code of Conduct. Individuals awarded the FAST will commit and adhere to these codes.
