Georgia-Pacific donated $5,000 to the Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) Educational Foundation to help support the college’s Mechatronics and Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) programs (also referred to as Electrical Engineering Technology in related contexts).

“On behalf of Georgia-Pacific and our Clarendon OSB plant leadership team, we are very pleased to continue our support of the Mechatronics and Electrical Engineering Technology programs provided by Florence Darlington Technical College,” said Jamey Gowdy, HR Business Partner for Clarendon OSB. "Education and workforce development are vital priorities at Georgia-Pacific, and we believe that investments in organizations like Florence Darlington Technical College can have a profound impact on the future economic success of our communities. We also want to express our appreciation to the teachers and staff at Florence Darlington Technical College for the dedication and guidance they provide to students who are preparing for their future."

The FDTC Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) program uses classroom and laboratory experiences to provide students with applied technical skills such as building, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing applied electronic circuits and equipment. Students accumulate a variety of academic and experiential knowledge, which prepares them for careers in a variety of manufacturing industries.

The Mechatronics program is an innovative, industry-driven degree that develops knowledge and skills across manufacturing aspects, including welding, machining, programmable logic control, electrical systems, fluid power, mechanical applications, and robotics. Graduates are prepared for roles such as maintenance technicians and equipment installers in manufacturing operations.

“We are deeply grateful to community partners like Georgia-Pacific, who align so closely with our shared vision for student success and regional workforce development,” said Sheryl Love, Executive Director of the FDTC Educational Foundation. “Generous contributions like this one empower us to provide students with hands-on access to advanced equipment and essential tools, preparing them directly for the high-demand careers they will step into upon graduation.”

FDTC encourages anyone interested in the Mechatronics or EET programs to reach out to its Admissions office at 843-661-8289, by text at 843-351-1940, or by email: admissions@fdtc.edu.
