Child Care Management

Program overview

The Child Care Management Certificate prepares early childhood and child-care professionals for leadership and administrative roles in child- care centers and related early learning settings, using competencies aligned with NAEYC professional standards. The program focuses on applying knowledge of child development and learning to create caring, inclusive environments; using developmentally appropriate practices to support children's growth across all domains; and observing, documenting, and assessing children to guide teaching and program improvement. Students build practical skills in program planning, staff support, and ethical decision-making while developing strong partnerships with families. Graduates are prepared to lead and manage high-quality child care programs through reflective, responsible, and professional practice that support positive outcomes for children and families. Although elective credit may be given for some completed ECD coursework, the coursework in its entirety is not transferable to a four-year institution.

Introduction to Early Childhood

Course Code: ECD-101

This course includes an overview of growth and development, developmentally appropriate curriculum, positive guidance techniques, regulations, health, safety, and nutrition standards in early care and education. Professionalism, family/culture values and practical applications based on historical and theoretical models in early care and education are highlighted in this course.

Family And Community Relations

Course Code: ECD-108

This course is an overview of techniques and materials for promoting effective family/program partnerships to foster positive child development. Emphasis is on availability and accessibility of community resources and on developing appropriate communication skills.

Principles Of Ethics & Leadership In Ece

Course Code: ECD-201

This course includes an overview of historical views on leadership and issues and challenges of leadership in early care and education. Emphasis is on current trends and issues. This course also reviews ethical principles as they relate to children, families, colleagues, and the community and society.

Semester 2

Administration And Supervision

Course Code: ECD-109

This course is a study of the role and responsibilities of an early childhood administrator. Special focus is on program monetary matters, space management, curriculum, health and food services, and relations among the public, staff, and parents.

Socialization/group Care Of Infant/toddl

Course Code: ECD-205

This course is the study of the socialization and group care of infants and toddlers. Emphasis is on guidance and management, understanding behavior, temperament, the importance of routines, primary care and continuity of care, and examining the elements of quality environments.
