Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Automotive Technology Degree with Diesel Option program helps prepare students for a professional career in variety of automotive and heavy-duty industry related fields. Graduates find careers at regional Automotive and Heavy-Duty OEM dealerships, franchised repair facilities, independent repair shops and parts businesses. Some of the position titles include technician, service advisor, parts personnel and service managers. The program offers training in the areas of automotive and heavy diesel industry safety, tooling and equipment, component identification and function. Classes and labs allow students learn subjects related to preventive maintenance, electronics, engines, diesel fuel systems, transmissions/drivetrain, automotive brakes, air brakes, steering/suspension, heating/air-conditioning, and hydraulics.

This program is formatted in a 3- year outline: 2-years in the evening t and Th for diesel repair and 1 year during the day M-Th for automotive.

• ENG 155 or equivalent test scores
• MAT 155 or equivalent test scores

In the Real World

Many individuals seeking training in Automotive and Diesel Technology expect to work as Automotive or Diesel Service Technicians. Automotive and Diesel Service technicians inspect, maintain, and repair light vehicles and heavy diesel applications. In addition to repair technicians, others who receive this training find employment in various positions within the transportation industry.
