Program overview

To provide students with the fundamental skills to design and construct web sites for small business applications and to interact with those business clients. The Essential Web Development Certificate provides students with the skills to design and construct web pages with programmatic and database underpinnings to support business needs.

Courses Required

Semester 1

Python Programming I

Course Code: CPT-127

This course is a study of Python programming and covers the language syntax and algorithm design. Students also learn how Python can be used for many purposes in information systems.


Microcomputer Applications

Course Code: CPT-170

This course introduces microcomputer applications software, including word processing, data bases, spreadsheets, graphs, and their integration. Note: May not be used for credit in any CPT degree or certificate program.


Semester 2

Introduction to Web Page Publishing

Course Code: CPT-162

This course is a study of the fundamentals of web page design and implementation.


Programming Logic And Design

Course Code: CPT-168

This course examines problem-solving techniques applied to program design. Topics include a variety of documentation techniques as means of solution presentation.


Semester 3

Shell Scripting

Course Code: CPT-180

This course is a study of shell scripting and emphasizes the designing, coding, and testing of scripts. This course will cover shell scripting from both the command line and the Graphical User Interface.


Semester 4

Database

Course Code: CPT-242

This course introduces data base models and the fundamentals of data base design. Topics include data base structure, data base processing, and application programs which access a data base.


Advanced Web Page Publishing

Course Code: CPT-262

This course is a study of advanced techniques in web page design and implementation.


Semester 5

Internet Programming With Dataabases

Course Code: CPT-240

This course is a study of the implementation of dynamic web pages focusing on the development of web sites that interact with databases utilizing current server-side technologies along with the databases to deliver dynamic content to client browser.


English Composition I

Course Code: ENG-101

This is a (College Transfer) course in which the following topics are presented: A study of composition in conjunction with appropriate literary selections, with frequent theme assignments to reinforce effective writing. A review of standard usage and the basic techniques of research are also presented.
