Gene Haas Foundation Awards FDTC $25k for CNC related scholarships

Florence-Darlington Tech (FDTC) has received a $25,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation (GHF) to expand educational opportunities in advanced manufacturing by helping remove financial barriers for current and future students pursuing careers in the high-demand industry.

"The Gene Haas Foundation's continued investment in our Machine Tool Technology program is an investment in the future of advanced manufacturing,” FDTC Engineering and Industrial Technology Department Chair Shawn Reed said. “By providing scholarships that can be used for tuition and industry-standard tools, this grant removes financial barriers and helps our students focus on developing the skills employers need.”

The Gene Haas Foundation, established in Ventura County, California, is dedicated to introducing individuals to and educating them about manufacturing technologies. This is the third consecutive year FDTC has received this prestigious grant from the foundation.

“At the Gene Haas Foundation, we are deeply passionate about advancing manufacturing education and introducing students to careers in the industry.” Executive Director of the Gene Haas Foundation Kathy Looman said. “Since 1999, we have contributed more than $300 million to this effort. We are proud to play a role in advancing FDTC’s manufacturing students.”

Scholarships will be awarded to students who are currently enrolled or will be enrolling in a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) training program or Engineering program with an emphasis on CNC technology and designed for manufacturability.

Computer Numerical Control is a manufacturing method where a computer program automatically controls factory tools and heavy machinery. FDTC currently offers an Associate’s Degree in Machine Tool Technology and Certificates in Computer Numerical Control Operator and Computer Numerical Control Programmer.
